تُعيد الكنيسة القبطية للقديس سرجيوس (أبوسرجة) في 10 بابة، والقديس باخوس Baccus أو فاخوس في 4 بابه من كل عام، وتوجد في مصر القديمة كنيسة أثرية باسم القديس سرجيوس تسمى كنيسة أبي سرجة، بها المغارة الأثرية اسفل الهيكل القبلي حيث هربت إليها العائلة المقدسة

أمام مكسيميانوس وقف الشابان سرجيوس القائد بالجيش الروماني في منطقة سوريا والعامل في المدرسة العسكرية ومساعده واخس (باخوس) أمام مكسيميانوس الطاغية شريك دقلديانوس ومثيره ضد المسيحيين، يشهدان للسيد المسيح ويرفضان التبخير للأوثان، وكان قد استدعاهما لهذا الغرض
لاطفهما في البداية، وأخذهما كصديقين له إلى الهيكل جوبيتر حيث قُدمت مائدة من اللحوم المذبوحة للأوثان، وطُلب منهما أن يشاركاه في المائدة فرفضا بإصرار، عندئذ أمر بتجريدهم من النياشين التي على صدريهما وأن يُقادا في سوق المدينة وهما مرتديان ملابس النساء لتحطيم نفسيّتهما، أما هما فبقوة الروح قالا له: "يا من تحارب الله، أتظن أنك تثبط أرواحنا بجعلنا في شكل أنثى؟ إنك تستطيع بالقوة أن تلبس الأجساد ملابس النساء، لكنك لن تلبس أرواحنا المتوثبة رداء الجبن!
" أدرك الرجلان أن هذه الثياب لن تسيء إليهما، فقد حمل السيد على رأسه إكليل الشوك وسخر به اليهود، فكان ذلك سرّ فداء للبشرية وعلامة حب إلهي للإنسان
حقًا جاءت الوصية: "لا يكن متاع رجلٍ على امرأة، ولا يلبس رجل ثوب امرأة، لأن كل من يفعل ذلك مكروه لدى الرب" (تث22: 5)، هذه الوصية يلتزم بها كل مسيحي روحيًا بمعنى أن يمارس الإنسان العمل حسب العطية والموهبة التي أُعطيت له برضى، فلا يشتهي الرجل أن يقوم بدور المرأة، ولا المرأة بدور الرجل
عاد مكسيميانوس يلتقي بهما فدخلا معه في حوار روحي بأدب وهدوء مع شجاعةٍ وحزمٍ، وإذ شعر بالخجل أرسلهما إلى أنطيوخوس والي سوريا لكي يلاطفهما ويقنعهما بالعدول عن إيمانهما لينالا كرامات عظيمة، فسافرا إلى نواحي الفرات حيث كان الوالي مقيمًا
أمام أنطيوخوس والى سوريا التقيا بالوالي الذي تفرغ لهما محاولاً إغرائهما، أما هما فكانا ثابتين على الإيمان
أمر الوالي بتعرية واخس، وتناوب الجند على جلده بأعصاب البقر على ظهره وبطنه حتى اسلم الروح تحت قسوة الجلدات، وطُرح جسمه في الصحراء فجاءت بعض الوحوش الضارية تحرس جسده بطريقة معجزية حتى جاء بعض المؤمنين وحملوا الجسد
في الليل ظهر القديس باخوس لرفيقه سرجيوس يدعوه إلى المساكن العلوية ويبثّ فيه روح الشجاعة فامتلأ سرجيوس فرحًا وتهليلاً
في الغد استدعى انطيوخوس الوالي القديس سرجيوس أمامه في مدينة روصافا Rosafa التي تبعد حوالي 20 ميلاً من مدينة بربالسا التي استشهد فيها القديس باخوس
هناك صدر الأمر بأن يسير القديس بأحذية بها مسامير مدبَّبة لمسافة طويلة، فكان يذكر القديس جراحات السيد المسيح، كما كان يردِّد كلمات الرسول: "حاذين أرجلكم باستعداد إنجيل السلام"
في الليل شُفيّ القديس من جراحاته فاغتاظ القاضي وأمر بتكرار الأمر في اليوم التالي
وقد حسب القديس ذلك مجدًا له، محتملاً صليب سيده، فأمر القاضي بعد فترة قصيرة بقطع رأسه (حوالي عام 303م)
