بطرس السادس البابا المائة والرابع
كان يُدعى مرجان، من مدينة أسيوط، عاش في جوٍ عائلي تقوي، وكانت نعمة الله حالة عليه منذ صغره لمحبته في الزهد والعبادة انطلق إلى دير القديس أنبا أنطونيوس بدير العربة، حيث لبس الشكل الرهباني، فكان يُجهد نفسه في الصلوات والقراءة مع النسك بروحٍ وديعٍ متضعٍ، فسيم قسًا على يديْ البابا يوأنس السادس عشر (103) في كنيسة السيدة العذراء والدة الإله بحارة الروم بعد تعمير دير الأنبا بولا أقامه البابا رئيسًا للدير بعد نياحة البابا يوأنس أُختير خلفًا له مع بعض الكهنة، وإذ صام الأساقفة والأراخنة وأُقيمت القداسات لمدة ثلاثة أيام وقعت القرعة الهيكلية عليه فسيم باسم البابا بطرس في 17 مسرى 1434ش (21 أغسطس 1718م) في أيام السلطان أحمد الثالث العثماني، وقد حضر الاحتفال كثير من الأوربيين ومن الأرمن وأيضًا العسكر، وكانت بهجة عظيمة وسط الشعب قام بزيارة الوجه البحري، وأجّل زيارته للمدينة العظمى الإسكندرية بسبب الفتنة التي قامت بين الصنجق إسماعيل بك والصنجق محمد جوكس في عهده استشهد المعلم لطف الله من أجل اهتمامه بتعمير الكنائس قام البابا بزيارة الإسكندرية حيث أخفي رأس القديس مارمرقس في موضعٍ أمين مع
