بعد نياحة البابا يوأنس الشامي، اتفق الجميع برأي واحد على اختيار رئيس دير العذراء المسمى المحرق واسمه غبريال المحرقي، عالمًا فاضلاً ناسكًا مهيب الطلعة، وتمّت رسامته يوم عيد الغطاس سنة 1370م، في كنيسة القديسين سرجيوس وواخس بالإسكندرية
انشغال المماليك عن الأقباط بالحروب الداخلية انشغل المماليك في حبرية هذا البابا بالحروب بين بعضهم البعض، فوقف السلطان ومشايعوه ضد يلبغا ومشايعيه، وسقط الكثيرون قتلى، وانتصر السلطان ثم دارت عليه الدوائر وكانت الحرب الأهلية فرصة هدوء نسبي عاشها القبط دون اضطهاد، اللّهم إلا حريق بعض منازلهم مع الحرائق التي اجتاحت القاهرة آنذاك
سفينة صليبية بالإسكندرية ومما أثار المماليك ضد القبط وصول سفينة صليبية إلى الإسكندرية، عاثت فيها نهبًا وتخريبًا وحملت أسرى كثيرين، وعندما رحلت لم يجد المماليك أمامهم سوى "لُبَّاس الصليب" قبط مصر، فحلّ فيهم ما حل بالمسلمين على أيدي الصليبين وإن كان ذلك في صورة مادية بحتة، ألا وهى مضاعفة الجزية عليهم شملت أيضًا الرهبان والأديرة
تكريس الميرون في تلك الأثناء صلى البابا مع أساقفته لتكريس الميرون المقدس في دير أنبا مقار
وكانت هذه أخر مرّة يتم فيها التكريس في هذا الدير
إذ أصبحت العادة فيما بعد أن يتم التكريس في المقر البابوي
ولكن في أوائل القرن العشرين عاد التكريس إلى الأديرة مرة أخرى
عاصر السلطان شعبان والسلطان علي بن شعبان المنصور، وجلس على الكرسي 8 سنوات، ثم تنيّح بسلام سنة 1378مsymptoms of chlamydia in the mouth
