اهتمامه بشعبه أثناء حكم الإمبراطور ديسيوس Decius سعى بوليو Pollio حاكم بامفيلية Pamphylia وفريجية Phrygia لمداهنة الإمبراطور ونوال الحظوة لديه، فأمعن في تنفيذ فرمان الإمبراطور ضد المسيحيين بكل قسوة ووحشية
في ذلك الوقت كان نسطور أسقفًا لماجيدوس Magydus الذي نال احترام المسيحيين والوثنيين على السواء وتقديرهم
وإذ كان يعلم أنه بسبب شهرته وصيته سيكون مُستَهدَفًا من قِبَل الحاكم مع ذلك لم يحاول الهروب
كان كل همّه الاعتناء برعيته الذين عمل على إرسالهم إلى أماكن آمنة بعيدًا عن الخطر، بينما بقي في البيت يصلي من أجل شعبه ومنتظرًا استشهاده
القبض عليه في أحد الأيام بينما كان يصلي قيل له أن جنود الوالي جاءوا يطلبونه، فلما رأوه حيّوه باحترام
سألهم القديس: "يا أبنائي ماذا أتى بكم إلى هنا؟" أجابه الجنود: "القاضي والمسئولون يطلبونك"
رشم القديس نفسه بعلامة الصليب وسار معهم حتى وصلوا إلى المحكمة، وعندما دخل وقف الجميع احترامًا له، وقاده الجنود إلى مكان يليق بمكانته
سأله القاضي: "سيدي، ألا تعلم أمر الإمبراطور؟" أجابه القديس: "أنا أعلم أمر الله القدير السرمدي لا أمر الإمبراطور"
قال له القاضي: "أطِع الأوامر بهدوء حتى لا تُحاكَم"، ولكن الأسقف لم يحد عن رأيه
حذره القاضي فأجابه القديس: "العذابات الوحيدة التي أخشاها هي عذابات إلهي، وكن واثقًا أن بالتعذيب أو بدونه لن أعترف بإله غيره"
إرساله للحاكم أمام ثباته أدركت المحكمة أنه لابد من إرساله للحاكم
أخذه القاضي إلى بِرجة Perga، ومع أنه لم يكن هناك أحد من أصدقائه وأبنائه إلا أن صيته كان قد سبقه
في البداية طلب منه الحاكم بلطف ترك إيمانه، وعندما رفض القديس بشدة أمر الحاكم فوضعوه على آلة تعذيب تسمى "الحصان الصغير" little horse
وبينما كان الجلاد يمزق جِنبيه العاريين بخطاطيف حديد كان القديس يرتل: "سأقدم الشكر لله كل الأوقات وسيكون تسبيحه دائمًا على لساني"
سأله الحاكم إن كان لا يخجل من وضع ثقته في إنسان مات مصلوبًا، فرد عليه نسطور: "هذه قضيتي وقضية كل من يدعو باسم الرب"
بدأ الجمع يزمجر، فسأله الحاكم مرة أخيرة: "هل ستكون معنا أم مع المسيح؟"، فأجاب القديس بكل ثبات: "مع مسيحي كنت دائمًا، وأنا معه الآن، وسأكون معه دائمًا"
أمر الحاكم بصلبه وتم تنفيذ الحكم، وبينما كان القديس معلقًا على الصليب كان يشجع المسيحيين الواقفين حوله ويثبتهم
وكان عبوره بمثابة انتصار، لأنه حين صرخ نحوهم: "يا أبنائي لنركع ونصلي لله" ركع كل الجمع الواقف سواء كانوا مسيحيين أم وثنيين وصلّوا بينما أسلم القديس روحه، وكان استشهاده سنة 251مwomen cheat because
